Lee and I went to see Hunger Games last night. As the plot goes teenagers are fighting to the death for their "districts." I couldn't help but notice all the moral characteristics it showed--loyalty, hard work, providing for family, self-sacrifice.Some of its controversy is that teenagers are going to see the film. But seriously, most teenagers are watching horror films and cheesy Miley Cyrus movies. I don't think its such a bad thing to have American teenagers think through the value of life.
So thats my take away. Its not a relaxing movie, and it definitely had a few uncomfortable violent scenes (when I read the book I simply skipped a paragraph if it was too violent for me, not exactly something you can do in a movie theater)
With that said, its thought provoking, futuristic and has a little love story. It stayed true to the book--something that annoys me about most books turned movies... with the exception of the Mockingjay pin (anyone else notice that?)
What is your take on it? Have you read the books or seen the movie?
PS I know this isn't a normal "family" post but I wanted to write this so there you go..a slightly random Saturday morning post :)
