We've been going to therapy 1x a week and he loves it. For homework we work on messy play (think playing with egg yolk or shaving cream on a cookie sheet). Helping me cook. Touching, kissing, smelling, and tasting new foods at dinner. We've made great progress...If we ever have another picky eater in our family we will know what to do!
With all of this said, I've hesitated to blog about it out of insecurity. Sensory difficulties is not a clearly defined thing, and some would argue that we should just force him to eat. Or that he will outgrow his pickiness if we'd wait a year or 2. Ultimately its teaching us new methods for expanding his diet, and we are so so happy to see his progress!

Julia,
I know how you feel. There sometimes can be judgements against the parents when the kids have special needs. So glad you are getting help that is truly helping. You don't have to post this comment, but with all of the sensory issues that your little son has, have you thought about getting him tested for autism? At least to rule it out? I've thought about asking you before but didn't want to hurt any feelings. He could be on the high functioning end of the spectrum which is good. It's just easier to get services short term and long term if they have an early diagnosis. Praying.
thanks for the encouragement! he hits the marks on some areas but misses others. I read that adhd kids often have sensory issues and we have a family history of adhd. I might discuss it with his therapist next time we meet. i know with brain development the earlier diagnosis take place the better!
