Gilead

Since I don't have a voice at the moment and I've spent a lot of time on the couch trying to get over this cold/flu, I'm almost finished with a book called Gilead. A Pulitzer winner, our Pastor John reviewed it on Desiring God's website, and it peaked my interest. Its about an elderly pastor writing a journal to his young son. He jumps back and forth between present life (in the 1960s) and memories of his father and grandfather. It might not sound very interesting but it is beautifully written. It reads like a memoir and I've forgotten it is fiction.

I'm not sure that the author is a Believer, which is fascinating in and of itself because of the research that must have gone into it. Provoking text about relationships, forgiveness, unbelief, and predestination. Found it at the local library...worth trying!

Julia, I read that book a few years ago and really enjoyed it! Glad you are enjoying it too.
