Stroller question

I've been researching double strollers, and need advice from moms of 2+ kids! Right now we use a lightweight umbrella stroller that I love, and I dread the idea of getting something heavy. Which is better: side by side, front/back, or jogging? I like some of the more expensive models like Phil and Ted's but used they are still expensive!

Bryce will be 20 months when our baby girl is born, so I'm guessing the main place I'd use one is going for walks around our lake and in the mall. Any ideas? How often does a 20 month old still ride in a stroller?

Well, our 4 year old and 2 year old still ride in strollers. We actually have 2 double strollers, one jogging side by side for outdoor trips and one for the mall and indoor trips that is front and back. (The side by side doesn't fit down shopping aisles.) We have the Graco brand car seats that fit nicely in the Graco double stroller for when the kids are babies so you don't have to move them much getting them in and out of the car (so they stay sleeping). But it is a little heavy. It also has places for snacks and a cup for the kids and ditto for the adults.(which we had actually gotten a used evenflo stroller that worked somewhat with the carseat but didn't have all of the extras. We used it till it died and actually are looking for a Graco now. Even though the kids are older. And also a covered wagon too. But that's another story)
The side by side jogging stroller is very light-weight even though it doesn't look like it and it's great for outdoors. The one we have also hooks up to a bike so Scott takes the kids on bike trips sometimes. We got this also used at a Tot Trade and got a really really good deal on it!
Strollers are usually pretty easy to find used, in good shape and for a pretty good price too.
Hope that helps some.

My kids rode in strollers until they were about 2.5. I really loathe any and all double strollers but when you have two under two.. there are times when you will definitely need it. We had a Peg Perego (from a consignment shop) front/back double stroller and it drove like a dream and my graco infant seat fit perfectly in the back seat. I would get a jogger only if I was going to be running. I heard the side by sides are very difficult to manuever in stores and such. My suggestion is to check out your consignment shops.. you may be able to find one there without spending oodles of money. When Emily was born I splurged on a Peg Perego PlikoP3 single unbrella stroller and it was by far my fave ever baby purchase. It has a standing platform on the back which is perfect for Sophia and isn't as bulky as the double strollers. Good luck! Stroller decisions are so difficult. :)

we have two strollers too, I don't know if there's any way around it. I really love the sit-n-stand (Elijah was 2 yrs and 4 months when the girls were born), and it holds an infant seat. It is still perfect for Elijah, who's almost 4 now. We also have a double umbrella stroller, which was worth every penny plus some. We use it all the time, All the time. But of course the girls were a bit older before we pulled it out.

I clearly have no experience, but, I'm going to put in my 2 cents anyways. I'd vote go with the lightest front/back stroller you can find. The side by side umbrella sounds appealing, but, seems uneconomical because it won't work in most stores which would cause you to actually need 2 double strollers. Any how, D is almost 19 months now. He prefers to walk most places but if we go to the mall I still use a stroller, or long walk outside, so I'd say there is no way around it- you need some kind of double stroller!

Thanks for all the stroller advice!! I'll definitely be watching for one with all the garage sales coming up this summer...I still like the idea of a lightweight side by side but it wouldn't work for everything. No such thing as a perfect solution (unless I buy 2)!

Most of the people I see in NYC that need a stroller for two use Phil and Ted's. When I asked a couple of people "Why?" they said that they work the best and since they retain their value b/c they are sturdy they can sell them when they are done with it instead of junking it.

Good luck--we're in the market search too, but may just end up putting the Bjorn back in business and forcing Creighton to establish his NYC legs since he's going to be 3 by the time number two arrives and needs the stroller.
